If you’ve ever bought roses for someone, you know there are many different colors to choose from!
While it may seem like a difference in preference, rose color meanings can actually play a huge role in the message you send. Even though roses in general are seen as an expression of love, the meaning behind a lavender rose and a yellow rose is quite different.
Once you’ve decided giving a rose sends the right message, you’ll want to consider which shade expresses your feelings most accurately using our guide.

The Meaning of Roses by Color

Picture
WHITE
White roses mean innocence, perfection and reverence and are often given at weddings and other occasions symbolizing new beginnings (such as christenings and graduations). White roses can also be given as a sign of respect or remembrance for funerals.
Picture
RED
Bright, fiery, and symbolizing love, romance, and passion, red roses are the rose most used to say "I love you!"  Burgundy roses are for expressing a secret love.  Send your sweetheart red roses this Valentine's Day!

Red roses also express courage and respect. They are therefore the perfect choice for armed services funerals.

RED AND WHITE STRIPED ROSES
These striped roses (or white roses with red tips) express unity and togetherness.
Picture
PINK
Pink roses symbolize gratitude, admiration, gentleness, and joy. They are a beautiful choice to express your thanks, give congratulations on a new baby, or sympathy when someone is grieving.
Picture
ORANGE
While the fiery shade indicates passion and intensity, the orange rose is appropriate for sending any enthusiastic sentiment...whether it’s one of love, thanks, friendship, or congratulations.
Picture
YELLOW
Yellow roses are a symbol of friendship and caring. They're perfect to send to your best friend!

LAVENDER
Though purple roses are not nearly as common as the other colors, they indicate a fascination or adoration. Darker purple is often associated with royalty and splendor, while lavender expresses enchantment.
Rose Bouquets and Their Meanings

A Single Red Rose means "Love at first sight", or years later "You are still the one".

A Single Rose of Any Color expresses gratitude.

Three Roses is the traditional 3 month anniversary gift and also means "I love you".

Half Dozen Roses expresses infatuation or "I'm head over heels for you".

One Dozen Roses means love, gratitude, and a true love. The number 12 is sacred in many cultures and represents perfection.

Two Dozen Roses sends twice the message and means "I belong to you". Or it can refer to 24 hours in a day and mean "I think about you always".

Combined with the message of the color of the roses, you can send the perfect message to your loved one!
